Schiff Hardin, a general practice law firm with attorneys in seven offices nationally, sought a space design for its DC office that would support a cultural transformation for 26 attorneys and redefine the practice’s identity in Washington’s bustling East End.

An initial visioning session revealed Schiff Hardin’s desire for a bright, dynamic space incorporating materials from nature. They requested an iconic design that would foster informal interaction and engage both clients and community. The resulting design solution incorporates wood and natural stone materials as feature elements. The floor plan maximizes daylighting and views to the bustling city while encouraging staff engagement and functional efficiencies internally.

Visitors and attorneys enter through a dynamic reception and conference area which offers stunning visual connections to the surrounding community. Large expanses of glass are coupled with translucent drapery and slatted wood screens, which provide accommodating areas for calm focus work and collaboration when required.
