Arena size: 318,990 SF
The PPL Center at the Allentown Arena Block Development is a large, mixed-use development project in the heart of Allentown, Pennsylvania’s downtown core. The project was designed as a mixed-use development anchored by a multipurpose arena. The arena hosts a multitude of events including concerts, family shows, sporting events and trade shows. The primary tenant of the arena is the AHL Phantoms Hockey Team. The arena includes: event seating for 10,000, including 1,000 club seats, 36 suites, offices, locker rooms and training facilities as well as retail and entertainment program areas. Located along the Hamilton Street Historic Overlay District, the project was designed as a single, high-rise structure with multiple program elements including street level restaurants and retail, office space, banquet and meeting rooms, over 850 covered parking spaces, and the renovation/adaptive reuse of the historic Dime Bank Building.
The project also included a state-of-the-art Lehigh Valley Health Network fitness center that serves the Community, LVHN patients, and the AHL Lehigh Valley Phantoms Hockey Team. The center features an elevated 40 yard turf sprint track and circuit training equipment to provide strength, power, and agility training for athletes. Sports nutrition areas provide access to the tools and expertise needed for members to fuel their bodies for peak performance. The center also offers a variety of rehabilitation and medical services. The physical and occupational therapy gym is designed to serve LVHN patients and athletes working to regain function, mobility, and manage pain in order to return to full activity. The concussion and head trauma lab provides a specialized examination room with light and acoustic sensitive design that allows for the diagnosis and treatment of sports and accident related injuries. The customized exam rooms and X-ray labs allow physicians from LVHN’s Sport Medicine and VSAS Orthopedic programs, and podiatrists from Allentown Family Foot Care to provide non-surgical care in this facility, and also provide an in-house treatment center for Phantom players that may require access to onsite medical attention or X-rays.
