Gowling WLG Law Office Fit-up
Square Footage: 106,500
As the headquarters for a leading Canadian law firm, ensuring that Gowling's new office space was reflective of their vision and stature was an important part of the visioning stage. Perkins+Will provided design services for the renovation of three floors of space for Gowling WLG in Ottawa. Featuring Class A office space, state-of-the-art conference rooms, a new reception area, lounges and breakout spaces, records and storage areas, a library, and several areas for support staff, the newly renovated space elevates the functionality and atmosphere of the office.
The objective was to be as efficient as possible; to create clear and consistent paths of travel; and to build in flexibility. The new space features universal perimeter offices with full glazing to promote light throughout the space, a centralized and expanded conference centre, and an internal stair to connect key spaces such as the library and training room. Reduced storage and filing space was planned to help meet the firm’s “paper-light” goal. Flexible neighborhoods can accommodate students, clerks and staff groups, with temporary walls when more privacy is needed.
Throughout the multi-phased project, Perkins+Will provided pre-lease design work services including strategy development, programming, master planning, re-stack analysis, and test fits for budgeting for various stay vs. relocation scenarios. Our post-lease design work services involved the implementation of the developed workplace strategy, including providing schematic design, design development, furniture development and specification, construction documentation, bid, and construction administration.
