Tom directs the Texas practice and is responsible for development of the region's medical facility planning efforts. With more than 25 years in the design and construction industry, Tom's designs and planning efforts have improved operational models and lowered the cost of healthcare. His passion for improving the healing environment has transformed the quality of care for patients in 10,000 patient beds at more than 150 health facilities in the United States and around the world. Clients rely on Tom's expertise and ability to work collaboratively on creating the "next generation of hospital," combining factual data and the creative soul of healing. This critical thinking about the future of medicine and technology as well as the evolution of the hospital has been the source for development of innovative, flexible and multi-disciplinary treatment areas. Tom's extensive work in nursing productivity planning has established new models for improving patient care, more efficient delivery of care, reducing nurse fatigue, improving nurse retention and improving patient safety. Through nursing models developed under his leadership, time spent by nurses caring for patients can increase from the average 37% to more than 50%. Every day, more than 6,000 nurses are influenced and provide care for patients in a healthcare setting designed and planned by Tom. Client successes include the University of Oklahoma Medical Center, Clear Lake Regional Medical Center, HCA, Baylor Health Care System and University Health System.
