Video: Wood in Education: Building a Strong Foundation

Samuel Brighouse Elementary School

People spend as much as 90% of their time inside buildings, and for children, adolescents and an increasing number of young adults, most of this time is spent either at home or in school. Given this situation, it is clear that the design of our indoor environments is of critical importance to human health-an intuitive conclusion that is now supported by an increasing body of scientific evidence.

Produced by Naturally Wood, an online resource that provides the latest information on wood products from British Columbia, this video explores how wood was used as a structural building material in three educational facilities, one of which is the Perkins+Will-designed Samuel Brighouse Elementary School in Richmond, British Columbia, Canada.
