The opening dedication ceremony for Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation's new Research Tower was held on April 20, 2011. Distinguished speakers at the event included Oklahoma Governor Mary Fallin, U.S. Representative James Lankford and Perkins+Will Principal Dan Watch. They were all on hand to express the importance of this unique medical research facility and its opportunity to become an "innovation engine." Governor Fallin said that she believes the building represents a major step forward for Oklahoma's health and economy. The new 187,000 square-foot facility designed by Perkins+Will is intended to help scientists work more efficiently, while attracting top researchers. The design also reflects OMRF’s commitment to sustainability and health of the local community from the inside out. Key sustainable features include wind turbines, two green roofs, efficiencies in water usage and the mechanical systems, natural daylighting and the use of regional recycled materials and resources throughout the facility.
